Proengin’s first activities in the seventies were mainly studies of special products for the French Ministry of Defense. Several products were developed related to production of energy, monitoring of gas within submarines and production of hydrogen.
In the eighties, the French ministry of defense, through the Centre d’Etudes du Bouchet has decided to develop a new chemical warfare agents detector. The technology to use was the flame spectrophotometry.

Confident in Proengin’s capacities to develop new high technology products, Proengin was finally selected by the French Ministry of Defense to develop and manufactured the AP2C.
The first prototypes of the AP2C were delivered to the French Army to be used during the Desert Storm operation and even at the stage of prototypes have proven to be effective and reliable even in difficult field conditions.
The AP2C was finally adopted by the French Army and has been manufactured in serial production (around 8000 AP2C as of today).

Besides French Forces, civil defense and police, the AP2C has been selected in more than 40 countries including USA (First responders, Army), Israel (Armed Forces and Police), Japan (Armed Forces) Australia (Armed Forces and Civil Defense), Sweden (Armed Forces ,Civil Defense, Coast Guards) UK Royal Air Force, Italy (Air Force, Police), Portugal (Armed Forces), Spain, etc.

Different accessories were developed as well as different versions of the AP2C (AP2C V for reconnaissance vehicles, ADLIF for fixed sites), and the reliability of the technology has been proven. Even though 8000 AP2C are used throughout the world, less than 10 units are sent back to Proengin for repair each year.
30,000 Samples of the hydrogen cylinder that was specially developed by Proengin has been manufactured and no one has been defective.

After the Yugoslavia operations, French Forces have requested the capacity to have a wider range of products to detect to include Toxic Industrial gases.
Proengin developed the AP4C that is based on the same technology (Flame spectrometry) but includes different algorithms to be able detect a wider range of chemicals.
The AP4C has been satisfactorily tested by both laboratories and operational users and was already selected by different organisations including, for example, the Singaporean customs were the instrument will be used on a 24/24h base in difficult environmental conditions.
Vey recently, Canadian forces have selected the AP4C as their new detector within the frame of the CAS program.

Besides chemical detection, Proengin has used the same technology (Flame spectrometry) to develop an alarm biological detector, the MAB. The MAB, in service within French Forces allows to detect and classify airborne particles in function of their chemical composition.
The MAB is an example of the easy adaptation of the AP2C Technology to other type of threats.
