Perspectives on defense capabilities in European societies: Answers and solutions for practitioners

Major social debates often lead to discursive chaos and fragmentation of content rather than clarification and orientation, especially when it comes to emotionally charged topics such as turning points in history, military capability, and defense capabilities. This is understandable from a human perspective, but it is not very helpful from a technical standpoint, as there is a particularly high risk that practical considerations will be lost in the general uproar. But what can users actually take away from this discursive status quo in terms of mission, resources, and organization—and how?

Session description

The presentation provides an overview of the current debate on German and European defense capabilities and systematically reveals what lies behind technical, legal, and social lines of discourse. Based on current data and statements, the first step is to outline key findings on the state of defense capabilities. The second step is to derive concrete consequences and options for action for the police, military, and other security authorities. Finally, participants will receive a compact filter and analysis grid that they can use in the future to separate relevant from irrelevant contributions to the defense capability debate and apply them to their own practice.
