Lothar Walther, youngest son of the world-famous gun designer and company founder Carl Walther, grew up in a family that had been involved in gun manufacturing for generations. He founded his own company in Zella-Mehlis, Thuringia, on July 1, 1925. From the very beginning he focused on the development of button rifling in gun barrels.
