ULBRICHTS is already famous for its unrivaled helmets, which are widely used by police forces and special forces around the world. In Germany in particular, both the SEK and patrol police rely on the helmets from Schwanenstadt in Austria. The updated range of handgun protection helmets is now based on the new lightweight OPTIO+ (in three different CUTS), a screwless upgrade of our First Responder model with a convincing motto:

This starts with the OPTIO+ according to VPAM3 HVN2009 and additional VPAM4 at only 1.5 kg!

Compared to the usual helmets for military worldwide and police outside Central Europe, the OPTIO+ offers REAL head protection that goes beyond the NIJ IIIA standard. This is not REAL ballistic protection, as NIJ IIIA only focuses on mandatory handgun projectile stopping, but not on trauma / BFS / BFD prevention, which protects against lethal residual kinetic energy transfer to the head and requires trauma values <25 joules.

The OPTIO+ is the best helmet for all operational situations.

Survivability in the event of hits to the head is not only relevant for police units on patrol duty or for SEKs in high-threat situations. The danger is omnipresent and must not be left to chance.

When saving the life of a soldier or during dynamic missions by special units, it is just as essential not only to protect against splinters and stop projectiles but also to protect the wearer from fatal trauma.

Dramatic lessons from various tests show that most or almost all NIJ IIIA helmets commonly issued to army and police units are effective at protecting against shrapnel, but not against one of the most widely used munitions fired in current armed conflicts:

When hit by 9x19 projectiles, they cause lethal trauma and when hit by long guns such as 7.62x36mm MSC from various Kalashnikov variants, .223 from M4A1 variants, or .308 from sniper rifles, they have complete penetration, i.e. a hole.

The ULBRICHTS OPTIO+ offers REAL VPAM3 HVN2009 protection beyond the NIJ IIIA standard up to 15mm from the rim, from a starting weight of 1.5kg, whereas standard military NIJ IIIA helmets have lethal trauma when hit by a handgun and a hole when hit by long guns.

This can also stop projectiles up to .308 with the FORTIS forehead shield and protect against lethal trauma with values <25 joules analogous to VPAM HVN2009 with Kalashnikov AK47 7.62x39 MSC (iron core).

The use of the new POLYTANIUM material (a special combination of polyethylene and titanium) increases the currently unrivaled efficiency of ULBRICHTS helmets.
